 Abstract 

Background. The changes that took place in state-building in the late 1980s – early 1990s and the transition from the Soviet socialist state to the rule-of-law democratic state necessitate the study of the process of regulating civil law relations at different development stages of the Russian state. The article aims at exploring the development of civil law and identifying the features, place and role of this branch of law. Materials and methods. The research task was solved based on the analysis of the main legal regulatory acts on civil law relations at different development stages in Russia and works of Makeev V.V., Golovko A.G., Ivanov V.S., Goikhbarga A.G. Methodological potential includes methods of comparative legal and historical legal analysis, which allow comparing the procedure for regulating civil law relations, place and role of civil law in the system of national law at different development stages of the state. Results. The formation and de-velopment of civil law in Russia is investigated, the prerequisites for the emergence, the peculiarities of private law relations at different development stages of Russia are ana-lyzed. The place and role of civil law in regulating private law relations and the relation-ship with other branches of law are considered. Conclusions. Despite the particular im-portance of civil law and its studies, the issue of the development of the civil law system is still acute. The development of civil law in Russia is characterized by the features asso-ciated with changes in state-building and the use of different political platforms at differ-ent development stages of the state. The evolution of civil law relations and their legal regulation is considered to understand the current development stage of civil law.
